I picked up a cheapo trashed guitar today. I'm looking for information regarding fretwork, painting, and replacing the tremolo bridge with a solid bridge. Can anyone recommend a community as friendly and forgiving as this one for this sort of thing?
Please and thank you.

Tape/paper off the pickups when using steel wool, otherwise you'll never get the steel splinters out of the magnets.

The group who frequent the guitar tech forum at Ampage ( http://www.firebottle.com/fireforum/fireBB.cgi?cfg=gt&forum=gt&enter=go ) have been a very congenial bunch in my experience.  Very little flaming, and lots of practical experience to share.  The accompanying pickup makers forum ( http://www.firebottle.com/fireforum/fireBB.cgi?cfg=gt&select=gt&first_days_old= )is every bit as high quality as here too.

Thanks guys, The projectguitar site looks like it has all the info I need on bodywork, plus fretwork looks scary. I think I'll be able to dress the frets myself unless they are too badly worn though. I had stumbled onto the ampage pickup makers forum a while ago but hadn't realised there was a guitar tech forum as well.

Cheers.
