Enclosures

What does everyone recommend for a first project?  I am building the Electra Distortion circuit.  Thanks!

There is a lot of info about enclosures on this forum that you can search through the archives for.

You'll find that the Hammond 1590 series is the most popular.

Other than that, you can find inexpensive enclosures at Radio Shack that won't hold up to real stomping, but you can at least mount something in them.

When I built the NPN Boost from aron I put it in a cheap plastic Radioshack enclosure. I would recommend it so you can get a feel for drilling the proper holes, managing space and everything; you wouldn't want to screw up with a more expensive enclosure!

Here is a cool little article I stumbled across a while back on GeoFex. You can use steel studs to make very cheap boxes, if you have a little bit of mechanical skill (tiny bit )

But if you really want to spend the money, the Hammond 1590 series is indeed what most people love to use!

Yes, please check out the GEO FAQ, well in fact all the FAQs. For the first project, even though you don't need it, I recommend the 1590BB box even though it's much bigger than you need.

For your first project you need it. You don't want to be cramming stuff in for the first one.

Cheepo = RACO Junction Boxes, Home Improvementer centers.
 Epoxy the punchouts or they'll punchout.
 Cheep, strong, 'ugly' [I like the way they can look], well weighted, and shielded.
 Use Hammonds for more 'Pro' appearance, bondo-sanding [2 or 3 x]to make a RACO's look perfect box is alot of trouble.
