The SB shows OA's used as the input buffers before the red and green sends...would substituting these buffers for discrete buffers have a disadvantage?

What is a discrete buffer ?

For me, "discrete" refears to digital technologie, analogic-digital conversion. Is that it ?

Not really, and no particular advantage either.  Probably the key thing is that you know the two initiial sends are a) unity gain and b) identical in output level.  In many respects, using a quad op-amp would make the layout more compact, although obviously the requirement for 6 phone jacks makes use of a smaller enclosure next to impossible and space-savings next to pointless.

Thanks Mark, I have an abundance of 5088's, and an existing voltage divider will be used.
