Hi Guys,

I am posting to show you some of my latest builds. I used Frequency Central's (aka Rick's) overhead transparency film trick to finish these. I am still perfecting it, but it works much better than paint for me. These are built in $4 Radio Shack boxes I scored recently.

So, first up, a couple of views of the family:

Your boxes look great Doc!! 8)

Nah!  I'll bet it's a beach towel.  OK, I HOPE it's a beach towel.

At this bass forum I read, there's a guy called Tom Bowlus; we make fun of him because he approximately one jillion dollars worth of gear, but the ugliest psychedelic carpet on earth.

well, I'll go for a bead top. Ether way the pic is outstanding. The red sort of have taken over and "conterminated" the whole thing. The comic part is that there is a sound frequency generator that stands on a pice of fabric that produces almost all light frequencies. so lets call this piece of art "340, the light speed of sound".  ;D
The only bad sounding stomp box is an unbuilt stomp box. ;-)

The guy's a rich lawyer, and he has more gear than any other person I've seen online.

Full list of gear: http://bowlusblog.blogspot.com/2006/01/bowlus-bass-borg.html

Sorry for the derail, folks.

MarcoMike

at least he has one 3x10" speaker!!
all that gear and only 1x15" speakers... that would have been blashemy!!

Can he play the bass?! Maybe it's just a bad GAS gone wild to compensate his poor playing skills?!
I believe that a lot of times less is better...

Perhaps you should refer him to the "DIY-ers repent!! Think of your families" thread from the Lounge, started by Mark Hammer.

It's possible he buys and sells as investments. Most of that isn't vintage gear though, I don't think...

SonicVI

He also writes for Bass Player or some magazine and probably gets a lotta good deals from that.

I foresee a pyramid shaped mausoleum constructed from the detritus this guy has accumulated.

Nope, not vintage. Bass players are not as into vintage gear as guitarists, especially vintage amps, as bass amps pre-SVT are mostly unusable. Not investments; the value only goes down when he buys them.

It's Bass Gear Magazine, which he owns, so I don't think that really helps him get gear. He does at least make some coin telling people his opinions of the gear. But as I said, he's a lawyer and I'm fairly sure that's the source of his gear money.

He seems like a nice guy though, so I'm not hating on him.

liddokun

Just so long as he's not one of those people who brag about all their gear then it's cool.
To those about to rock, we salute you.
