just a question I wonder for a long time , why a 10n cap at output ? I mean, that's very "harsh" and "nasal" with a such little cap . It was present on the first fuzz face?

I always change it for a 100n (or less) to add basses and "grit" .

Like the 1K pot totally useless ? what was the idea in putting the gain control here ? nobody in the 70's noticed it does nothin 'till the max ?  :icon_lol:

I agree, fuzzo.

The 10n output cap is the stock value on both Ge and Si vintage FF, so that's why I used it... On some versions I used 47n input cap and 47n output cap an it sounded very consistent (no mud on the bass range).

About the pot - well - it's not useless... But not very progressive, sensitive... There's a complementary thing to do then : see the "sensivity" control of my Saupiquet Tuna Fuzz Face below. This controls acts somewhat like the volume pot of the guitar.

Nice finishing decal job, John Lyons... Again and again. And I do not speak about the innard job.
It seems that the Q's are 2SBxxx and you blend the input cap between 10n and 2u2 by a pot - am I right ?

Time for me to finally post something again!

ADA Flanger - Moosapotamus' SAD1024 version...  I was lucky enough to get one of the last of those chips. Made the harmonics switch footswitchable, added the stereo output option. The speed footswitch just switches between two pots.

You have a lead snippet in the upper left corner though hehe. How do you fasten the board above the pots? Do you have a pic? Did you use waterslide for the graphics? Very very nice build, looks like $$$$$ boutique.

Actually the sensivity is the "fuzz" control I put instead of the regular 1KL , more interesting and useable.

Again today , I finished another one for a guy who wanted keep the  regular fuzz pot (2K2L) and still nothing on all the curve of the pot.

anyways, the circuit is really amazing , you can have a lot of different tones in changing on component .

I bought the enclosure from a German webshop called Tone Toys (www.tone-toys.de) some time ago. The sell mostly guitar strings and accessories, but for a few months they also had pedal enclosures. Apparently this is the same size used by Toadworks for some of their pedals. I could measure it for you, if you want.

I had a hard time fitting the PCB, 4 jacks and 3 footswitches into the enclosure, but once I put all the jacks on the side and bent their contacts sideways, it suddenly worked out.  ;D

Btw, you have inspired me to try my luck at etching enclosures... My mother is an artist and she used to do quite a number of copper etchings ("grabados" se dice en castellano, no?) , so I should have access to all the necessary supplies.  8)

Yes, 2SB172 transistors. And good eye on the input cap blend.

I use this outdoor double stick rubber tape stuff.
Did you use water slide for the graphics?
Yes, just a laser printed water slide.

Some time ago I made a Silicon Fuzz Face with Mosfet's and an Input-Cap-Blend-Control,
a really angry heavy-fuzz and a modified GE Fuzz Face too, so I am not new to this type of circuits
and I think I will be busy with this classic effect because its so much fun to modifiy and test something new  :)

I made a sustainer recently, as per Pete/PSW's guides. Pete is a great guy. I pm'd him before i started this build, and he's been emailing me back and forth for the last while giving me help, tips, advice, general discussion etc. I understand now why he sometimes gets a little frustrated with people, but, I do value his help. Really though, his tutorial is good, and you'd be surprised how many questions you answer yourself just by working through the project. I'm getting pretty good results, but it's a pretty tricky project that neads lots of tweaking. I'm still not 100% there on it, but, i am getting lots of sustain on the vast majority of frets. I'm hoping to have it 100% completed this week. Like i said, it can be tricky at times, but, it's not as difficult as i thought. Thought I'd post up a few pickchurs! :D

Firstly, a few shots of the driver whilst being built. I used balsa to block the bobbin up to 3mm. I used 0.21mm wire, and wound it to 8R. According to pete, you've a tolerance of anywhere between 7.5-8.5R, but 8 on the dot is the best. I think it took me somewhere between 160-180 winds. I used the same magnet that was originally in the pickup, and i used the coil with the screw pieces. Pete suggested i go with the other one, cos there's more steel in it, BUT, he did agree with me that the adjustable screws do provide a certain degree of extra adjustment. When the driver was done, I used the other coil as a dead slug, just for aesthetics. I wrapped it all back up like the original humbucker, and the finished product looked just like a humbucker really!

As for the amp board, I used one based on the Fetzer/Ruby. I made a couple of little adjustments to it though. Pete recommended changing the output cap to 100uF, which does definitely make a big difference. My pickup in the bridge is really high output, and i find it's often a bit too bassy, so the circuit has a bit more treble in it than bass, just to compensate for the higher strings. The amp board was vero'd specifically to fit in the pickup toggle cavity. I've only 1 pickup in it now, in the bridge, so there's no need for that toggle switch. The battery also fits in there, and the switch, board and battery are all seperated by layers of foam. Also, the small piece of stripboard you see in the control cavity is just for organisation. Things like the amp pot that's there, common ground etc etc. Not the neatest of wiring jobs, i know, but it works.

It is touchy, but then all that control really needs to do is let you back off slightly from being set full up.

If you use a C taper (reverse Log) pot it smooths out nicely.
