I thought people might be interested, generally I only post images of some of my more interesting builds here - but if people are bothered, I'll stop.

However to suggest I'm advertising - on a DIY stompbox forum - is certainly a new one on me. I'm flattered you think I'm a commercial success - I build pedals in my bedroom like many of you, and have a day job.

I've also done many veroboard layouts and shared them with the DIY community (my name is Mike Livesley), but I mostly post on FSB.org, as I assume a lot of you guys also do. I figured this was a reasonable place to share photos. And I post a lot in this thread about other people's builds and answering questions abuot finishing and decals for those interested here.

But - point taken, I'll not post anything else to this thread. I guess my 31st birthday is as good a day as any to bow out.
Take it easy

I am not saying that "commercial" builders should be banned from posting. Quite the contrary! I agree with Mike that they should have their own section of the forum. Sometimes, the more "commercial" builders have tips to offer.

As for the multiple pictures. I really do not see it as anything more than a vanity/advertising thing. I don't buy into the "greater appreciation for detail." idea. I mean.... does anyone really want ot see closeups of the white washers and the 3PDT?

I would say that an overall picture and a gut-shot is good enough for just about anyone. Maybe a 3rd pic to highlight some odd feature of the build (Like a skillfully placed midi port)

No need to "Bow out." Sorry if you feel ganged up on. Just saying that perhaps another thread for these types of posts are better suited.

Happy B-day BTW!  ;D

Perrow, Govmnt_Lacky, .Mike.. - guys, if you think the pictures thread with all those well-intentioned rules you sugest is a good idea, feel free to create one and rule there there all day long, but please don't mess this one - thanks :)

I wanna see more of Mike's stuff, however I do agree with the setiment, partially. Mike had the best idea, IMHO... "Commercial" type builds thread. Show 'em off before they go away to be abused!   :icon_biggrin:

You know what?  I read through the last couple of pages of this thread and it made me a bit sad.

SSMike has always been a cheerfully helpful forum member.  I'm always happy to see his posts.

FWIW, I disagree entirely with the decision to start up another pictures thread for commercial builders.  Is Slade a commercial builder?  Freqy Cent?  Pigyboy?  etc etc etc.  I reckon we all want to see their posts, why treat SSMike any different?

@.Mike and @Earthscum - I love you , but I can't agree and I would like to ask a mod to make a call regarding your other thread, if that's ok?

Blimey, that's all a bit serious.  Sorry.

?

ShortScaleMike has always been an active member of the DIY community, both here and on the other forum. He's made a ton of vero layouts for us all. I know I've used a bunch of them.

Perrow

I'm sorry if I've missed ShortScales contributions elsewhere, but I have still "seen a lot of his pedal pics before". They're nice looking, but they're starting to feel like reruns.

I have never questioned SSMike's contributions... only what Perrow illustrates above. I do not want to see him leave.

Honestly, I didn't start that thread to solve a problem... well, not in the sense that the last pages here allude to.

IMHO, SSMike's stuff (just using him for example) gets buried and passed up just as much as some of the other small builds. I think a thread where you can post builds that are "commercial" in nature is a good idea, i.e. you have a group you're taking down to your local shop. If  people like SSMike are willing to share their builds with us, and show us how they send out reliable products, why not have a thread dedicated to that?

Honestly, I wasn't playing on the card of segregation... I think .Mike had a great idea, let's see how it goes?

WTF! Nice witch hunt going on here! Is there limited space left in the Pictures thread? Does it have to stop when we reach page 1000 or something? Did I miss an important announcement?

Personally what @#$%s me off is having to wade through post after post of @#$%%^&* opinions to find the cool pedals pics.

Yep, my apologies to ShortScaleMike. If he says he isn't here to advertise, he isn't here to advertise. If you guys say he contributes, he must contribute.

I'd have to think that if there is any reason for Aron to disallow a "Commercial" pictures topic, it would be because of his stated desire to keep advertising off the forum. I didn't bring this up with him because I figured it was reasonable to suggest that people who build for profit not bury people who build as a hobby.

I should have just kept my mouth shut, and in fact, I'll go ahead and do that now. My next post to this topic will be a compliment to a new builder, or a photo of a completed build (several months off, since I just decided yesterday what to build next, and I have a lot to learn).

Sorry guys! :)

Mike

Better idea (IMO)... changed that thread to "   Show off your "Pro" and "Exceptional" builds!!!". If it's accepted, it gets used and bumped, if not it will just make it's way to the bottom of the list.   :icon_wink:

My guess is a Rat?

I've been eyeballing some metal can relays at my local shop, lol... they look just like that. I don't have a use for them, but I've been tempted to buy one just to put it on a board for looks (and probably confounded looks when I tell them it's non-functional, lol).
