Hi, just bought some capacitors for my mods, but some are in the flat box shape , these was termed to be polyester film box type.

Really are these any good? or worse than the normal film caps we normally buy - the 'bugling' shape type ?

Anyone with experience of these kind of box caps in your pedals?
Please help, thanks

Paul Perry (Frostwave)

these are good, no problem at all.

I've been using the AVX box types...seems like they sound jjust great.
I" think they sound just a little different than film caps if a whole big circuit like BMP is built from them compared to film...somewhere around the difference in the resistor tolerances...so 'I can't say for certain...
 They sound great tho.
Flat brown caps I tend to not use at all.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Glad to hear that about the AVX, I'm going to order some of those later today.

Sure are inexpensive for a 5% tolerance.

Hi to all who replied, JUST to CONFIRM : This is the one , metalized polyester films -
if you do a search on this following webpage, somewhere towards the end, you will see the picture of it.

GOOD? still can use in place of the normal polyester film caps?

Yep that's the ones they were referring to.

thanks Mart, I was going to use these on my boss SD-1, BD-2 for the mods. I should think there's no diff. to the tone ?

MartyB

I doubt the difference would be of any significance tonewise.  YRMV.  To know for sure you'd have to a/b them - maybe socket.  I use them in preference to the swollen polyester ones when I have them, just for the 'tidy' factor 8)
