Great idea putting it in an old suitcase. I just love the creative stuff folks do with these little amps. I'm thinking a plastic lunchbox would also make a good portable amp case.

Cool idea. I'd be re-using that power jack if I were you. Higher rated LM386/JRC386 chips can take 12 volts, and the little amps sound much better at 12 volts (to my ears anyway).

I built mine in a Walmart gray carpet covered 8" speaker box with a Vintage Reissue 8" Jensen speaker. It sounds very, very cool.

If you really wanna rock, use this speaker as your enclosure!

BILLYL

have a question -

I have a application that needs a small amp.  The amp will have a portable CD player as it's input and drive a 4in speaker.  It looks like this RUBY will do it?

Thanks
BILL

BILLYL,  dont think its meant to be used as a "CD"  amp, the gain and volume controls are very interactive to give you clean through to driven "guitar amp" tones, but perhaps it will "clean up" enough for  CD ??

Just put my 1k gain pot in and realised that my "vol" pot was not connected to earth !! ( see photo above )
This thing sounds great now, just need a much bigger speaker !!

Thanks again to ROG for another classic !
