anyone know where I can find a 500 or 660 mh inductor? can I make one?

I'm building a dunlop crybaby and it calls for a 660 mh. Can I do with out it?

Thanks, TSD88

Have you tried a search on this forum? Something like "inductor, wah" should do it.
There's Smallbear for a selection of wah-specific inductors, there's the brilliant "technology of the wah" at GEO, and even Aron (your gracious host) has some yellow Dunlops.....

There's yellow & red Fasels for sale on ebay all the time, too. Also, www.tubesandmore.com sells them.

you can make your own halo inductors from the great guide made by tom at arielfx:
http://www.arielfx.com/inductor_guide/guide.htm

you can get the parts at the cave:
halo inductor: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=368

and the #38 wire also at the cave:
http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=438

i just finished making my own halo (510mH / 29.5 ohms) last night and it sounds great actually a lot easier then i thought.
patience is the key and thouroughly reading the guide is a must. but you can do it. you can even wind them by hand provided you keep tension on the wire without breaking it and count in your head the number of turns.

or if you need them quick i would try the yellow fasel the one i pulled out to put in the halo i made was 680mH and something like 21 ohms. but it doesn't compare to my halo. you don't have to stick to the dunlop called for 660mH. i also true bypassed the wah and changed some values from other wah mod suggestions.   hope this helps.

I also want to give a big thank you to tom at arielfx and steve at the cave without these two, winding halo's would probably be this big mystery. instead by provideing the guide and the parts these two have helped me achieve a really good sounding wah that i can't wait to show off. thanks boys.

peace, waldo

I picked up a bunch of 900mh inductors for a buck apiece that had a tap somewhere around 750-800mh or so.  I use the tap and find my wah quite aceptable.  You may have to dicker with cap values to get your own special flavour, but certainly don't feel terrified of going beyond 660mh.  The only sample of the wah I have is here: http://ampage.org/hammer/files/FortyNiner-1.zip  It's just the first few seconds of the sample.  I understand that may not be "pukey" enough for some, but I think it illustrates that "orthodox" inductor values are not absolutely necessary.

Quotebut certainly don't feel terrified of going beyond 660mh

I think it was Geoffery Teese that complains that 660mH is "to muddy for my liking". I'm not a Wah Aficiando, but I think the 660mH sounds fine. I think the "sound of the inductor" has more to do with subtle distortions and offsets then the precise value - whether it be 500mH or 660mH.
