Swapping a BJT with a MOSfet...?

IS it true that

1. this an easy thing to do without much rebiasing as long as a suitable fet is chosen?
2. this gives softer distortion but more noise?

I have done it in Fuzz Faces, but the bias may require some adjustment.  Gave a different character to it.  :icon_cool:

You can sub them in but the thresholds are usually around 1V min, often more, and they vary from device to device so you need a trimpot in there somewhere.  If you look at the input section of the EA trem at runoff, that's one way I do things to solve the bias...all depends on the circuit.

They're quieter than bi-polar trannies.  Softer distortion if you use CMOS  :icon_twisted:
