Good day!
I recently decided to rebuild my peadalboard and want to incorporate electronic switching on several pedals.
I like the DOD/Tech21 hex inverter drivig FETs switching, but have never seen a project for a switch like that. I would perf board it, but hesitate, since the chips are digital and i will need several identical copies.
Does there exist a layout for good dependable switching circuit that would allow bot LED and effect switching?
Thanks!

Would CD4016 be any good here?

My guess is that you could use any Boss schematic for the switch section (the two trannies). This uses to npns/pnps (cant remember) and a switch. Also try the Tube Screamer, which has basically the same idea. For info on how it works go to the brilliant GEO page and "Technology of..." link in the top left.

I think this is right - any other ideas?

Any ideas on DOD/Tech 21 switching?

I have some 4016s sitting on the desk that I want to try out. Please post your results.

4016 works fine with SPDT switches. = Electronic relays. When you use it in a combination with a 4013 flip-flop you only need a cheapo SPST switch.

Hello Constantin,

Here is the Tech21 switching that i took from my original GT-2... the only difference is the FET... Tech21 uses a SMD FET... i think it is PN4393... something like that... but i use the 2Sk30A (the ones used in most of the Boss and Ibanez pedals)... forget about the 2N3819 in the picture... i was testing them, but the 2SK30A are much better...

I hope it helps.

Thanks,
Wagner.

Check out the Electronic Switch article at GEO http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/cd4053/cd4053.htm
CD4016 and CD4066 can also work. I think someone (Gringo?) had a PCB layout for this switch, or a similar one.

Also you should read thw Wicked Switches article at Tonegod's site. Can't find the link at the moment.

I think an explanation of DOD style switch was at Mark Hammer's site ( http://hammer.ampage.com but seems to be down at the moment)

PN4393 are good Fets for switching too, and you can slow down the control voltage to minimize popping (you cant do that on a CD4053)

Luck!

...likely because the suffix is .org not .com  No problem, easy mistake to make.  Here is the doc in question:  http://ampage.org/hammer/files/dodswitch.gif

Mark, I can't open your site for a long time.

I tried hammer.ampage.org and ampage.org/hammer, both at work and at home. I tried IE, Firefox and Opera.

IE:

Oops! :icon_redface:
I can access it fine using Firefox and Win2003, by the way.

no one ever

personally, i would like a layout of an spst switch-based dual-logic chip electronic dpdt.
(chk chk chk)

jrc4558

That would actually be a good idea. I am currently attempting to do a compact layout for Tech21 switch, but being an amateur with no training in pcb layouts makes things way too slow for someone who steals 30 minutes every four days from school, work and music. Perhaps someone could bo it better/faster. :) But I wont give up. Just dont expect it all too soon. Its slow process in my dimension. :)
