Another amateur like question from moi- Does a reverse taper pot have to be wired different to a std pot as I'm using one for my Ross compressor.

No.  The difference is in the amount of resistance as the wiper travels the taper of the pot.  It's resistance at various points along the travel would be different than that of a, say, linear taper pot, measured at the same points.  The result is the response of the pot to in the perception of your ears.
