Hi. I was wondering if someone could simply describe how to wire in diode protection to keep my mosfets from being attacked by anything nasty.

Do you put diodes on the source and drain heading in the appropriate directions? Is it as simple as that?

It's pretty simple. Take a 12V zener diode, and connect it between the gate and source. For an N-channel, connect the cathode (bar) to the gate, anode to source. For a P-channel, connect the anode to the gate, cathode to the source. The zener prevents the gate from ever exceeding the rated gate-source voltage in either direction.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
