infrared optical beam schem?

Anybody knows where to find a beam, to make a cv?. I'd like to control a few pedals with some sort of optical beam, because i'm too lazy to build an expression pedal. Thanks a lot!

There's a Sharp (I think) IR distance sensor module available that's supposed  to output a variable voltage corresponding to the distance of the reflected IR signal. I bought a couple of these about a year and a half ago and seem to have lost them. Pretty bummed about it, too. They were kinda expensive. I found them from a robotics website (these things seem to have wide use in the robotics world).
