I did a little research on how the tone stack in the BMP has changed over the various editions and have compiled a list of them.  I did it for myself, of course, but I'm sure a few of you will enjoy this info as much as I do.  :)

They are all in .tsc format, so download the ToneStackCalculator to view these.

(Here they are in a zip file; they may tend to get corrupted if you download them as .tsc files)

Nice :)
Do you have a schematic of Ram's Head Big Muff ? I'm looking for it :)

Yup, links are hosed.... ???  I'm very interested, however.

Skreddy

My apologies for the bad links; it was late, and my brain's not so good when tired.

Here is a correct link to the directory where the files reside!

The Ram's Head was made with 2N5087 transistors, which are PNP.  Therefore, the Ram's Head model is the one called "PNP" in the following pdf file compiled and hosted by http://singlecoil.com...

Here you will find the tone stack of the latest model (2005) :

The values are 22k/3.9n and 22k/10n.

But, ....just 1 thing......

I see U can use "sequence colors" option,
but,.......
which is which??   ???
with 3pots, and 3positions each(left/center/right), that's NINE graphs  :icon_eek:
which is which   ???

Try downloading the zip file to make sure the .tsc files aren't getting messed up during downloading.

Thanks for the USA Reissue info.  Added.

It's because of your regional settings on your Windows system. The floating point character on your system is probably set to a comma (,) whereas the files uses points (.)
You can do 2 things:
- change your regional settings, and change the floating point character to a point (.) in the Windows Control Panel (not recommended)
- edit each files with a text editor (such as notepad), and change all the points (.) to commas (,) (recommended)

Here are the edited files with commas: http://urso94.free.fr/diy/BMPToneStacks_with_commas.zip

When you will open the files, the graph in TSC isn't updated. You must move the mid slidebar to update the graph.

Thanks, Urso!  I never would have thought of that.

It's not your tone stack, then; it's the other parts.  The transistors (contrary to popular opinion on this board) are vital to the creation of the voice of the BMP.  Followed by the type of capacitors you use, and finally the type of resistors.

Look for new old stock 2N5088's and 2N5133's, and try all the new ones you can find 'till you find some that sound like the sound in your head.  Also try BC239C and even BC109C for lower gains, or 2N5089 for higher gains.  I prefer BMPs made with transitors that have gains in the 500 - 800 range.  You'll have to experiment yourself to find what makes the tone you want.

Also, OH I forgot to mention the diodes.  !!!  You can get a LOT of mileage from playing with different diode configurations.

I opened up a original ram's head the other week and it had 2n5089's in it. Might have been a very early model perhaps?
