Right now you have to buy either a stereo or dual mono kit, Brian is thinking about offering a single channel kit for us guitar amp builders.  It would be about $40 and include the PCB for both the amp and the PS, and all the components.  Anyone interested?

**edit**
I should also mention he is thinking about selling a bridged parallel lm4780 kit, meaning two paralleled lm4780 chips running together bridged for a total of 200w RMS!  If anyone is interested in that, feel free to mention it also.

I think the single channel lm3886 kit would be pretty cool.

I'm in thre midst of building a parallel LM4780 amp right now. Got the PCB from DIYaudio Company Store for cheap. It would be nice to be able to get the PS and Amp PCBs from the same place.

Yes I'm interested, I could use at least one of those [everybody should have at least one cool amp :icon_wink:].
For a few applications I have right now, an amp like that I think would be an upgrade from what I'm currently using to do these jobs.
Rythm Pattern backing loop for solo practice: playback amp.
  Keyboard Amp
  Guitar Amp
  Vocal Monitor Amp
Plus, I just wanna try one.

Cool, next time I talk to Brian I'll be sure to let him know.  Anyone else interested please post, I'm not sure how many people he needs to make it worth his while.

Also, from what I gather, everyone seems interested in the 1x50w lm3886 based amp stuff, not a 1x200w bridged-parallel lm4780 based amp project.  Is this correct?

I have no real use for a 200w amp at the moment.

I'm in for at least one, perhaps three or more, depending...

What's that supposed to mean?

$40.00 or so, but still cheap compared to buying stuff for tube amps.

You know if the cost of this hobby is bothering you, then you might wanna stick to 9v effects.

You can actually buy 3 or 4 SS amps in cabinets in thrift stores for what building one good DIY SS amp will cost you. You've just got to want to do it or you shouldn't even bother considering it.

Haha, good luck with that aorund here RDV.  Buying a 50w SS amp around here even used is going to run you $120-$150 and up.  So building one is a great option for me.  Not a bad price, and its fun.

I'll be sure to let brian know whats up with all this, it seems we have plenty of interest in the 50w kit, but little/no interest in the 200w kit (except that I want to build one).

Well, I meant old stereo amps from thrift stores, not guitar amps. I'm usually not terribly clear about what I'm saying. :icon_redface:

I think a kit would be a great idea, however, since i'm doing my amp for science fair, the only stipulation my teacher laid out for me was "just don't order a kit and build it." otherwise, i'd be all over the kit. and 200w just seem like too much. i have a 120w, and i've never even needed all 120w of it. i don't know what i'd do with 200w.  ???

I'm interested. Do you have any sound clips of the amp? Thanks.

Use the search, I've posted a quite a few. This amp is a poweramp and will sound different depending on what you use as a preamp in front of it.

RDV

Joecool85

Exactly.  It's all about the preamp with these things.  For right now I think I'm going to make a lineout mod on my K-20X and use that as a preamp.  Eventually I'll build a preamp I can use, or maybe buy one...but odds are I'll build it lol.

Just an update.

I talked to brian, he said he is willing to sell them for $50 if you order straight from him, but if I do a group buy he will sell them to me for $40 per kit.  So if we get enough interest, I'm willing to have you guys paypal me money for the kit + shipping and I'll order them up and then ship them to you.

I'm going to build mine/test it some before I do a group buy though.  Brian asked me to, and I think thats a reasonable request.

I finished my amp:

And Brian said that he may be able to get prices even lower if we get enough people interested in a group buy.

i apologize if i came across as rude earlier, but i just don't see the benefit of the actual kit. It may be convenient to have the PCB and all parts ready for assembly, but the real money draw is left out of the equation.

The PCB isn't really helpful to me. I am a perf type.

Joecool85

I don't think its a whole lot cheaper to perf it out...especially at the group buy price of $40.
