stupid question on IC list and pinouts???

Hi is there a list of different IC chips that may be substituted for others we may not can find, with pin-outs, like Op amps,  hex inverters, 555 timers, etc., anywhere on the net with a list already that does not resuire searching forever to find what will work in place of another one..

To have a complete list of that type would be a near impossible task with all the parts out there. You best bet is always check the datasheets of the original part to the substitution part to make sure critical specs match.
