El Griton/808 static problem

I built the EL Griton 2.2 TS-808 clone.  Distortion and tone are everything I hoped for - Excellent.
I built it with 3PDT true bypass.   The problem is:  when the effect is in line, there is an annoying intermittent static sound (tshhh-tsh-tshhhhhhhh-tsh-tsh-tshhh...) in the background.   I've wiggled wires around and prodded the components looking for a poor connection and cannot find it.  The static does not occur when it is bypassed, and I've determined it's not my guitar, cables, or amp.  I've tried 3 different 4588's so I know it's not the IC.   Any ideas?   Bad solder joint somewhere maybe?

Thanks, Steve

My guess is a bad solder joint or perhaps a solder bridge somewhere.
Just a guess although, a bad resistor or an electro cap in backwards may do it too.
Alot of possibilities so I can only offer you this guess ;)
