Generally, how close are the replacements for OOP parts?

I was trying to find SN72741 op-amps and 2N4303 trannies which are long out of production. Mouser lists direct replacements for each part but I was wondering how close they would be to the originals? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
