Thanks for the schematic, I think I may have found my problem.......I'm using bipolar capacitors for c2, c8 and c9 (eg 6.8 uf bp and 2.2 uf bp ) not 6.8 nf and 2.2 nf .........so that may explain something...Keep you posted once I've replaced them ! (nf is not used so often I suppose)

Cool...the capacitors were the problem. I think i might change the speed pot to a larger value. Maybe that will make it go really slow. thanks for the feedback.
Stick with it  stobiepole there is light at the end of the tunnel !!

Congrads, 9 volts! You can slow it down by adding a cap parrallel with C1.
