I know that they're basically identical except that the DOD 250 Preamp has bigger caps.  I suppose that the DOD 250 might be more bassy than the MXR Distortion+, would that be correct?

In a blindfold test, do you think that you could tell the two pedals apart?

the 1Meg drive pot on the Distortion+ means more gain.

As far as I can tell most of the caps that are different only affect the ranges way below/above your average guitar signal

Gain is max when resistance is 0 on the gain pot.
My Dist/250 has two knobs, but the gain isn't, it's a HF rolloff, also I have a Ge Transistor driving the input w/volume knob for 'gain'.
Test memory, the 250 has smaller voltage divider resistors, slightly different voicing and...that's about it.
They both use the same PCB, and so, one can easily be or become the other, maybe with a switch or two.
  Both schematics would look

They are quite similar however, I still prefer the voicing of the 250 over the Dist+.
Fore something different, try the 1977 OD250 in my layouts gallery.
(another shameless plug  :D)

I'm so itching to try your 250 but I'm still working on my English Channel.

I can hear the difference between my 250 and Disto+ easy.

I'd like if someone else would build it just to hear other opinions!

That's about what I have going on, except gain is set.
And an input cap select DPDT, could be done with SPDT or even SPST...
The ['new'] "Gain Adjust' is available/NA via a TBypassed Ge or Mosfet Boosters Volume knob.
I use the HF adjust knob at the output, only slight adjustments these days, but a great thing to be able to adjust right there, indespensible for finding  settings I like, in my case, use of the the DIST+ 'alone' is less often than with some other active circuti with it, that knob helps it adjust.
