Hi Perf-Builders!
I would like to know if something like this would be helpful to you?

If I do this with some of my layouts, would this be of help or should I not waste my time nor yours?  :icon_lol:
Just would like some opinions as I don't build with perf.....I hear that too much perf-building will send ya to stompbox rehab! :icon_wink:

Meanderthal

Yes, that's the stuff! Much easier than trying to follow a vero layout!

So, in other words, If I were to just put the perf template under the layout, maybe straighten some of the traces, that would be a good thing for you guys?
Just trying to offer up some help to the board here!

Meanderthal

You got it! You could also just remove the pad-per-hole template and have a good clean PCB layout... 2 in one...

as a practicing perf junky, I definitely appreciate seeing perf layouts.  I usually just wire 'em up straight from the schematic but for more complicated and larger circuits layouts can be a big help.

Oh Heck yeah.  The perf layouts would be great.  I'm always looking for perf layouts and there are not enough of them posted.  I perf all my builds and some are too big because I don't spend enough time laying them out well.  I get too excited to get the build done I guess.  I'll be looking forward to checking out perf layouts if you decide to do so thanks.

Yes it helps a lot! Having the thicker lines make it much easier to tell that you're doing that right thing. After hours of building my eyes get tired too, so easier to see is much preffered. Thanks!

I think it would be helpful in the sense that perfboard wirings are more transparant for newbie builders who don't understand the circuit yet.

When I started out I loved ROG, just because they had perfboard layouts for everything. Now I did some stuff on vero, I'm beginning to see the advantages (space, time).

thanks mark

Okay, then that's what I'll do.
I'll start adding them into my layouts gallery over the next several days.
Thanks fellas  ;D

Mark thats cool. I don't think it's entirely necessary though. Perhaps a tutorial on converting layout formats would be helpfull?

It's confusing at first but you can easily convert from one format to another no matter if it's vero, perf or pcb.
Especially if you use Banika's wonderfull DIY Layout creator! Get your copy here: http://www.storm-software.co.yu/diy/index.php?project=software

Let me show you what I mean.
Here is a vero layout for Joe Davisson's Headphone amp.
http://aronnelson.com/gallery/JD-Headphone-Amp/JDHA_vero?full=1
Change it to PCB by adding traces and pads then remove the cut symbols.

The perf layout is really the same as a PCB layout you just use the excess component leads or bits of wire for the traces.

Probably a better step by step showing the conversion is needed.
I can put something together with a layout the has been verified if anyone thinks it would be usefull.

Dragonfly

hi mark....

the dragonfly folder has a bunch of perfboard layouts that were done that way...basically, design the PCB layout and then change the boards "properties" to "perfboard"...it eliminates having those little blue "jumpers" connecting everything in perf style layouts....

rock on,
   AC

ps...i'm gonna try to find time to check that layout this evening...right now i'm on my way to band practice....

OK this is my poor attempt to show how to create a PCB from a Vero layout and a Perf layout from a PCB layout.
I'm sure Mark and Andrew already know this, really anyone who has used the program probably does to.

This is R.G. Keens Jfet matching circuit. It is verified by me and others. A very usefull tool if your going to build a phasor. Follow the link  R.G.'s artical for more info.
Vero layout - http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album75/Fet_Matcher_1
Step 1 - http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album75/Jfet_Matcher_2
Step 2 - http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album75/Jfet_Matcher_3
Step 3 - http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album75/Jfet_Matcher_4
Step 4 - Almost there http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album75/Jfet_Matcher_4
Step 5 - Congratulations it's a PCB! - http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album75/Jfet_Matcher_5
Step 6 - Now it's a Perf layout - http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album75/Jfet_Matcher_6

I hope someone finds this at least somewhat helpfull

Mark that is definately a great way to do perf layouts!  I dont understand why people dont just use PCB layouts for perfboard.  But awsome.

And RLBJR65 I do find those steps useful.  Never thought of doing it that way.

markm

Thanks 800!
BTW, more perf stuff has been added to my gallery  :D
That little step-by-step bit by RLBJR65 is quite interesting indeed.  8)
