I've given it some thought, and here is a rough schematic of what I had in mind:

Am I on the right track at least?  I'm basing the connections off of what I've seen with the Metronome project in Craig Anderton's Electronic Projects for Musicians and other oscillator circuits I've built.

I got something called "Mini Ogran" (yes, ogran) in the mail today. It's a complete kit with pcb and thirteen microswitches, speaker and all. The instructions even include a schematic. My original plan was to post it here but i'm not sure that's totally ok. What do you think?
This design, however, is based on different sized resistors instead of capacitors.

I breadboarded this with a single pot and it fired right up, so I perfed it.

There are only 4 trimpots right now, I'm waiting on some more.  The bare wire near the top is the 9V+ connection for the trimpots; I could have been neater with a better-planned layout.  Along the "Y" row are the connection points that will go to the pads for each pitch on the PCB I have yet to fabricate.

I used a 0.1μF for C1 and 10k for Ra.

So far I can play simple songs and arpeggiated chords (C-E-G-C) etc.  I left space for several more trimpots, and I can curve the line of them around the side if necessary.  I'd like to have an entire octave including half steps.
