Well, the big five-o today and feeling rather frisky! Big birthday present from recently retired brother-in-law/fellow techie was a Metcal soldering station with all the goodies. Unbelievable unit --- looks a little incongruous next to my piles of scavenged boards. Current project: stereo chorus amp with effects loop and panning. Thanks for the education along the road, everyone!

Sounds cool. Any chance of a picture?

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Happy Birthday!  :D

Pardon me if I'm telling you something you already know... but make sure you have some 600 degree tips and not just 700 degree tips. I have a Weller with the same temperature regulation scheme and the lower temp tips make the rosin last a LOT longer on the tip before becomming crud.

Those Metcal unit look really nice. The tip selection is WONDERFUL!

Take care,
