I have been looking at doing a mute switch for some time now, and am wanting to do a very simple switch. (SPST)
Is it safe to just ground a signal line to earth at the end of my pedal chain before it goes to the amp?
Will this cause problems to the pedals before it?

Just the whole idea of shorting worries me a little!

yep, thats exactly what a mute switch is :)

That's good, cause I was thinking that I would have to ground the output side and lift the input side. I.e not short the last effect to ground let it float and ground the input to the amp.
But if it's fine to just ground it then that's fine. Just needed to know.

It's effectively what happens if you turn a pedal level control right down.
