Simple Tube over drives?

Hi.

Anyone have any tips on a simple and good sounding tube over drive?

I'm also looking for a simple tube overdrive but as far as I can see the Shaka uses AC rather than DC, in the UK I cant seem to find a 12V AC wall wart adapter, plemty of AC/DC adapter but no AC.  Are there any simple DC tube circuits or am I on a hiding to no where?
Sticking a tube into a tube screamer to get good sound is about like rubbing yourself all over the weight stacks at the gym to get stronger - R.G.

They must have AC wall-warts in the UK somewhere. In Sweden they have them in most general hardware or electronics stores.
