Is there a way to get really "choppy" (square wave?) tremolo out of a Phase 90?

go and look at the Tremulus Lune's tricked out LFO and then the Phase 90s one, then notice the striking resemblance  ;)

Sure. Take the otherwise unused square wave out of the LFO, use it to drive a new JFET in series with the output. That will turn out output completely on and completely off.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Any money it'll click like buggery though (if buggery does indeed click)!

I could swear that someone told me about a mod that you could get a tremolo effect by jumpering between a resistor and a cap with another cap. Does anyone know of this or is it just a light tremolo effect with this cap mod?
