the datasheet ive got says the 169b has a hfe min max @ic is 180/400@5ma

the datashee ive got on the bc59 has a hfe min max @ ic is 110/800@2ma

how do i compare the two variables given the ma rating is listed differently?

cheers

rocket

the b suffix of the bc169 says it's medium hfe. the bc549 also comes in b anc (higher hfe) so just use the bc549b also the bc548b or bc547b should work.

probably any npn transistor with a gain of more than 100 will work

Sometimes replacement transistors sound almost like the original ones in some circuits. In the case of Fuzz Face-like circuits replacement transistors could sound different. Never tried a Supasustain but I geuss that a 2n2219, bc140 or 2n5088 could have their own flavour.
