Can i use a 2n2219 in place of an 2n3904???? both are NPN general purpose.

check the pinouts on the datasheets. google "2n2219 +datasheet" and "2n3904 +datasheet" , minus the quotes, and compare.

  Yes. Could be/probably 'your circuit?' won't tell any difference.
  2n5088 [HG/LN types] might be lower noise than 2n3904? I don't know 2219's well, or what circuit.
