A problem and a challenge (or maybe not :) )

Hi,

First post here. I need your help and maybe to give a sm. present
in return...

20 years ago I was poor (hey just like now :icon_biggrin:) and i needed a fuzzbox...
I had some experience building kits so I went looking for a schematic and in a DIY
electronics mag found a a basic fuzzbox circuit uinsg an LM358. It and a Godbout
electronics (thanx Craig Anderton) compressor kit were my main pedalboard.

The fuzz wasn't Hendrix but it sounded pretty good....when I had money I
ditched it for a Guv'nor (still have) and a RAT (gave to son).

Cut to 20 years later...found old fuzzbox...major nostalgia trip, box ripped apart
when (who knows?) circuit still wired...but disconnected from power switch
jacks etc etc. I want to make it live again, but I don't know what wires go where...
Original schematic and magazine are long gone...

Using DIYLayout (badly, it' s great software!) I have done the following and am donating the circuit to
the forum esp if we can get it working again  : 8)

So....I can take photos of it too if that will help ...

Best Regards,

Hi, SOS and welcome.

What's there is easy to figure out, I scribbled it out in a couple of minutes.

But without a bit more info, I'm afraid there's not much more I can do.

The input is on that loose wire into C3. The output comes out of the free end of C5. Beyond that, all I can guess is that either the pin 5/6/7 side of the IC is being used as a comparator like in Anderton's "Optimum Fuzz Adapter" or that there is a missing control.

Were there any controls on this? Volume knob? Drive pot? anything?

Best guess with nothing else to go on is that it's the kit version of that fuzz, which was a bit different from the article that was published in the magazine. I'll see if I can find that in the archives.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Hi RG,

No this was nothing to do with Craig or GP...nor was it a kit.

This was a commercial mag with projects like making an intermittent windshield wiper etc,
(amazing I remember that other project)..I kept the mag for several years.

...and the guy designed this fuzz from scratch for his son or grandson....It was only a schematic
and a couple of paragraphs...

The pedal had volume and drive/fuzz and a spst on-off switch. I added the
LED later and a DPDT stomp switch...and probably at least one of the wires attached
to the circuit has come off the board.

I could d post a picture but the project's on perfboard and I'd really rather not
show off my lack of soldering skills... :icon_biggrin:

BTW did you have a reason for referring to me as SOS?..There
are circles where I am known as that...
