i found an old AD schem (klein envelope??) and it calls for 5m pots....could i get away with using 1m as only 2 of the lugs are used....(saw an AR gen on rays synth site that uses 1m ,and is built similar)...
cheers in advance

The only problem is, the decay may not go as slow as you want.
Maybe you can bodge it wiht a bigger capacitor. What page is it on?

You could switch in resistors added to the lugs of the pot to get two [or more] different ranges of resistance that the pot could fine tune [within its 1m range]
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

thanks for the tips....
the i got the schem ages ago (and its not on this computer) but its labelled 'klein envelope'....it uses a 4001 and dual opamp....
i've seen a similar one on rays synth page

but this is ar (i read somewhere that ad is better if its for a vcf)...
it uses a 40106 and 4013

There are scads of cheap, simple, flexible envelope generator schems posted around, the majority of which use a 1M pot for the attack, decay and release parameters, and a 10k for the sustain parameter.  Barry Klein's book is a classic and there is lots of good stuff in it, but don't feel constrained to that schematic when there are so many to choose from and the pot values present a hardship.
