I was placing a Ge transistor into a socket when the leg snapped off. I tried to solder it back on but the solder covered all the base so all the legs are connected. Is it broken or can I fix it?

My Guess is that if you placed the tip of a soldering iron directly to the base of a tranny you effectively killed it by doing so.  :-\

Not neccessarily but, it is a good chance it's dead.
Unless it's truly a precious piece to you, I'd move on.

Broken < precious, it's alot easier to find another one.
