I'm building a booster with a Ge tranny (AC187K). I couldn't bias it properly at first. On a tiny movement, it went from 1 v to 9 v at collector. So I build a tester using Smallbears explanation. I don't quite understand the readings, I get. So I thought they might be reversed. Is the red dot always on collector side? And have anyone had experience with reversing AC187K? (I know some devices can be reversed)

Try maybe a smaller value trimpot first.
If you bought a tested transistor, it should bias ok.
