I've measured the current this circuit eats. Using 2 9V batteries,
it was about 60ma at each battery. Sounds normal to me.

rody82

Ok, its in the dip filter section. I've disconnected it and instantly
the volume dropped a lot, and no more weird effects. The Peak filter seemed fine.
I'll debug it tomorrow, as its pretty late here...

I've learned a lot today: Trust your batteries! :)

GuitarLord5000

I havent found anything wrong with the layout just yet, but to be honest, I havent given it the time it requires just yet.  I have a plate full right now.  But if the layout is fine, you'll have to hunt the usual culprits.  Opamp orientation, solder bridges, burn components, etc.  I'll let you know when I get more time to look at the layout.

Hope you get it working rody.  I really wanna hear this thing when its all put together.

Peace,
Dave

This thing drives me crazy  :icon_evil:
My modified dip filter layout has a mistake.
R15+R22 should be 220k total, and its 202k on my layout. (It was ok on
your original layout, GuitarLord )
I guess, this caused the biasing problem at one of the opams,
made the overall sound much louder plus some gating effect.
I'll try with the right value tomorrow.

I dont have too much time these days, so sorry for the slow progress :)
But the sounds i've heard so far are promising, seems these layouts will be
fine

rody82

It works!!!  :icon_mrgreen:  :icon_mrgreen:  :icon_mrgreen:

(there was some miswiring, a missing jumper, and a bad resistor value :icon_redface:)

Sounds cool! And most of all, the noise level is normal. (increases with the gain)
Considering the criss-crossing bunch of wires i was really surprised.
Cant wait to box it up properly, cause now the wires breake regularly (pots just
hanging in the air, and the very thin wires i had cant bear that stress )

Will post some sounds samples soon.

GuitarLord, would you like to make a project file? I could help you.

GuitarLord5000

Hey rody!  Im stoked that you got it working!  I DEFINATELY wanna hear some sound samples soon.  And if you would help me make a project file for it, I'd be grateful.

Thanks for all the work.

Happy new year!

I've boxed the thing up, and it sounds great. It seems it has a bit too much
treble with my strat, but i'm still experimenting...

Tried it on a Roland Cube 30. Then hooked up my old BSIAB2, Thunderchief,
RAT, and was really surprised how better the LXH2 sounds. They were like fuzz
pedals. These pedals sound nice on my Peavey Bravo (25W all tube) though.

By the way, the damp pot doesnt seem to do anything. The bass boost works, but its subtle.

I'll play trough it this weekend, and record some clips.

GuitarLord5000

Hey Rody!

Looking forward to hearing the sound samples.  If possible, could you record some samples while rotating the damp pot?

Also, try using a guitar equipped with humbuckers and try the bass boost again.  There might be a larger difference with that, no?

Congratulations, and as always, thanks for taking the time to verify the build.
Happy New Year!

Some clips.

used an AKG microphone with my Peavey Bravo 25W tube amp,
and an HSS Yamaha Pacifica 604W strat. (With a Seymour duncan JB
at the bridge, and a Vintage Rails pickup at the neck)

used the bass at almost max, treble and mid at 9-10 o clock. presence
is usually at 12-13 o clock.

Hmmm. Any opinions? Does the link work for you?

GuitarLord5000

Wow...now THATS amazing!  To my ears, it sounds FAR better than the other emulators out there.  Very authentic "Marshall" sound.

Could you do me one favor though Rody?  Would it be possibe to record a sound sample using the LXH2 as a direct box?  These things are designed to be stand-alone, and I'd like to hear what it sounds like without any amp coloration.  If you could, I'd be grateful.

This thing sounds SOO amazing, that Im definately going to build one, once time permits.

Again, thanks for the effort in verifying the PCB.  Its a big one, and I appreciate the time you spent on it.

Peace!

I'll make some direct recordings as soon as my power supply is working,
i'm tired of changing batteries :(

Please help!!!
Built the ggg bipolar power supply. Uloaded, all voltages are fine, but as soon
as i connect the circuit, the + voltage drops to -0.7 V !!! I have L7809CV,
and TS7909 regulators. I've even changed them. My transformer has
120ma 12V secondaries. I measured +-12 V at the regulators input legs,
but at the positive regulator the output is -0.7V...
Internal protection? But this circuits hardly draw more than 1A current,
and the thermal sinks are not even hot.

The link worked but I couldn't download any files !

Wouldlike to very much, I'm very curious how it sounds.

Very impressive soundclips!
Is it worth the extensive build? :)

very much!

easy evh tones for me...
Look at it this way- everyone rags on air guitar here because everyone can play guitar.  If we were on a lawn mower forum, air guitar would be okay and they would ridicule air mowing.

Can someone help me!!!!Can i use 100K potentiometer instead 100K trimpot on the  amp sim.

Thanx

Absolutely, however once set, you should never need to tamper with the pot again.  A better solution would be to figure out what resistance you will need and add in a fixed resistor.

Rody, I had the same issue with the GGG bipolar supply. I built the LHX2 Fender simulator, not the marshall one. With batteries it works OK. I´m starting to suspect the GGG schem is problematic... anyone can comment on it? I´ll try the Anderton bipolar power supply.
