Hey :)
I built the Ross compressor and it worked great.
I sent it to my friend wrapped firmly in bubble wrap, and when he plugged it in it didn't work.
When I took it back, and started  looking for the problem i found some things:
When i plug a battery or a transformer in- they begin to heat up as if there was a short.
The Resistancy reading of the 4.7M resistor near the input shows 0.2  OHM!

If it worked and suddenly doesn't.. what could have gone wrong?
Thanks,
Shachar.

I would say what happened is obvious, it got damaged in transit or your friend screwed it.  Whats probably more important now is fixing it  :icon_wink:

Did your freind use a power supply?  If so, what kind?  Check the diode that goes from +9vdc to ground.

What layout did you use?

he didn't screw it.. i know him, he knows what he's doing.
i don't think that it got damaged in transit.. i wrapped it in 3 inches of bubble wrap  :icon_lol:

i used the Ross Compressor layout from www.tonepad.com
what sould i check about the diode?
he used a power supply- a 9v, 800mah transformer.
he said the transformer got pretty hot..
afterwards he used a 9v battery..

Thanks :)

OH MY GOD.
I replaced the diode.
IT W-O-R-K-S!
How did you know it's the diode?
Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My guess would be that he used a 9vac power supply instead of 9vdc.  That would explain the bad diode.

Its a compressor its going to be a bit noisy thats the nature of the beast.

If you are using the stock compressor layout then there are plenty of tweaks to quieten it down just have a search this pedal has plenty of posts against it
