Is there any difference between dual-gang pots and stereo pots? I know that physically they're different, but what about technically? I mean like tapers - can a dual-gang-pot have a linear taper and a log taper, for example?

generally the same thing.  It can happen that some quad-ganged pots have different values for some sections (especially in those old car radios where you'd push the control in to alter tone and pull it out for volume), but dual-ganged would rarely have different values or tapers for each section unless they were some kind of small-production special order you found in a surplus shop.  If it's in a catalog, chances are it is intended for the music market, in which case both sections will be identical, or as close to it as production techniques allow.

After all you DO want the treble to do up (or down) on the right channel as much as it does on the left, correct?
