I just wanna say, if you haven't built this booster, do so! It's amazing..

I'm just curious, since i built this from a layout drawn by Andrew Carnell, found in the layout gallery. Is this a design of his (yours) , or a pedalmaking companys?

It's my design. Nothing revolutionary....just a basic jfet booster...but it does sound good...

Glad you like it !

Still my favorite booster.  Thanks for the boost and the Cream Pie as well.  Both awesome boosts.

likewise....so simple and yet aptly named....it just adds sparkle...already built several, two for myself and some for friends....the last one I built, I didn't even add a footswitch...it's always on...I prefer the 458 version

mnordbye

Yeah, it's great. I haven't tried it with the 458, but with a j201 it's still going strong.

I've looked around the gallery and could not find the definitive schematic...

That's a layout, but what is VR1?

VR1 is a trimpot, in this case a 100k one.

I used a vero-layout, thought it was in the layout gallery here, but now i can't find it anymore. Send me a PM if you want it.

how does this boost compare to say the minibooster?

nooneknows

Hi,
what is the function of the 100K resistor on the output in parallel with the pot?

YouAre

is it called the "sparkle boost" cause it adds sparkly high end to the signal?

  Both are single gain stages.
  Both use Jfet type transistor.
Minibooster is 2 transistor a Mu amp [see GEO].

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I think the sparkleboost has less gain, more treble, and a more "airy" quality about it, whereas I see the minibooster as a ganier and a slightly more congested sounding pedal. Both are nice, but even though they are both Jfet based effects they are definitely different sounding pedals.

Glad you like it...its amazing how great  a simple design like this can sound !

I've built a few already. Each one I've built, all J201s, either someone will buy it off me or ask me to build them one. I just charge them for parts, of course ;) Now, I am reminded to build another one for myself. This time I'll try a 2SK117
