I saw this on eBay and thought it was a great concept. Obviously these are el cheapo pedals, but a great idea!
Is their a better more durable version of this?????  a build?????

search the forum for varitone. It's been done many times.

you can do that basically with a lot of the effects projects on the forum.

All you do is find the tone capacitor of a design and replace it with a 5-6 position rotary switch that has 5-6 different value caps.  I have done it with a Vox Wah, Brian May treble Boost and a tube-screamer.

But if you wanted something like that, i would suggest a BM treble boost or rangemaster and have that rotary switch on it with a variety of caps.  i did that mod to my diy TB and i got bright surf sounds to brit sounds.

What are some good cap values?

depending on what kind of Pups you got i would go with
0.0047, 0.01, 0.022, 0.047, 0.1, 1( in microfarads) which is what i used(sounds great w/lace sensors and hot rails)

but if you have really thin sounding pups maybe   0.022, 0.01, 0.022, 0.033, 0.047, 0.1
