Tonepad MXR Noise Gate

Hi! My name is Nicolas, I am from Argentina

I built a MXR Noise Gate from tonepad's layout (Callate 1 with no mods ) . I used the MPF102 and a 5.1V zenner without sockets. I put the FET like in the layout and it works perfect. Some people say that drain should be connected to Vb and Source connected to the junction of 1M resistor and the 10uF capacitor. But it works fine to me without that change..  How Could this Have Happened?
Doing some research in the forum and in the net I didn't found two persons with the same opinion about the FET placing

Hi, I just want to ask hows the decay? Does it have audible nosie trailing specially before the last note cut off. Try sustain one note and hear if there is an audible hum or noise before note fade out.  This noisegate is very difficult to perfect. Mine, I refitted the FET just like you said and I reversed the 10uf capacitor polarity and almost perfect the decay. I say not 100 percent similar with my Boss NS2 but I can tame my single coil with it  .
BTW, I used 2n5952 and 2n3904 with 120-130 Hfe.
