Hi!  I have been searching this great site for 2 days on methods for removal of squealing in my first ever build, Aaron's Rocket Fuzz.  So, after much research , I upgraded the input cap and removed probably 85% of my problem!  ( I can't believe all the posts about my very same problem!  It pays to search!) I have 1 more cap to swap out, and it's on order.

Anyway, I'll get to the point:  I am ready for my next build, and I want heavy distortion.  I have read great things about the Obsidian overdrive, so I'm excited about building it.  However, after searching for a whole day, I found too many variations, and I need a little guidance on which to do.  There are a ton of great posts about this very issue; but the links are broken.  What I could find ;

http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?image=obsidiantys0.gif     (schematic, 2n5089 version)

http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php/v/Daves-Layouts/Obsidian+T.gif.html   (layout, 5089 version)

http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?image=obsidianpcbwq1.gif   (pcb and layout, fet version)

http://img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=obsidianch7.gif    (schematic, fet version)  .

I got all these off this site, I hope it's no problem to repost them here :icon_confused:.   I know many have built this; any advice on which is the best version, or , did you use one different than these?   Thanks in advance!!!!!

Hi, I just found this today, don't know how I missed it back in May when you posted it. Sorry about responding so late.

The second 5089 link you posted is my layout. http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php/v/Daves-Layouts/Obsidian+T.gif.html

I can't speak for the Fet versions but my layout is verified and sounds great. Very easy build, I had no problems with oscillation and it's not noisy considering it's a high gain circuit. It's a great heavy distortion.

Here is another great heavy distortion:

It's Joe Davisson's Blackfire with a Marshall Tone Stack. I got the idea for it from Paul Marossy.

If you want to try it with no Tone Stack, here is a layout

Here is one with a Big Muff Tonestack with Jack Orman's AMZ Presence added.

All are great for heavy distiortion.
