swirl turns to mud (anyone else)

Ive tried 3 swirl enclosures, the bottom plates look good but the tops seem to turn to mud gray and i have trouble coating the sides. anyone else or am i alone? Tips tricks or whatever are welcome... thanks
put it together, now take it apart

you might want to try not thinning it out so much assuming you are thinning the paint. also try not swirling it as much i guess. what colors are you using? rylan

do you wet sand down the enclosure so its nice and smooth and shiny? if not, you should do that

Didnt wet sand, I usually do simulated grain or patterns buffing it and fades or two colour blends using metal cast colours....... Um.. to do the swirl I am thinning it out but not too bad, about the consistency of mylanta jsut a bit thicker and im using peto pink, dark purple, black and white.......
put it together, now take it apart
