Hi guys/gals

Having trouble with a Tonepad Small Clone build that isn't producing a chorus sound. Here's the checklist stuff:

1) Switching on and off fine, as does the LED, but theres no chorus happening. Adjusting the Rate has absolutely zero effect on the sound, the depth pot has a slight audible change to the sound whens its turned. Tweaking the trimpot also causes the sound to change, but I can't find a spot where chorus/modulation kicks in. At a certain point the trimpot causes the signal to distort. As well, I've tried swapping all the IC's out in case one or more might be bad, no dice.

I've audio probed pin 7/8 on the MN3007 and there is no chorus there, just dry signal.

I put a jumper for "Ra" on the layout and left "Rb" empty, thats correct right?

2) Tonepad Small Clone w/ Depth Pot Mod

3) http://www.tonepad.com/getFileInfo.asp?id=97

4) No mods to the circuit.

5) No parts substitutions either, I'm using exactly whats listed on the parts list.

6) No +/- ground conversion. :)

7) New battery, 9.76v
Voltage at the circuit board end of the red battery lead = 8.84
Voltage at the circuit board end of the black battery lead = 0

Q1 2N5087:
E = 5.78
B = 5.2
C = 0

Q2 2N5088:
E = 5.39
B = 5.94
C = 8.88

Q3 2N5088:
E = 8.14
B = 8.73
C = 8.76

JRC4558:
1 = 4.38
2 = 4.38
3 = 4.27
4 = 0
5 = 4.36
6 = 4.37
7 = 4.37
8 = 8.72

LM358:
1 = 0.58 <-- Shouldn't this swing up and down? It doesn't unless I play with the Rate knob.
2 = 6.86
3 = 0
4 = 0
5 = 1.96 <-- Ditto?
6 = 0
7 = 7.48
8 = 8.69

MN3007:
1 = 8.03
2 = 4.03
3 = 6.12
4 = 0
5 = 0
6 = 4.03
7 = 6.03
8 = 6.03

CD4047:
1 = 7.83
2 = 0.122
3 = 7.35
4 = 8.01
5 = 8.00
6 = 8.00
7 = 0
8 = 0
9 = 0
10 = 4.01
11 = 4.01
12 = 0
13 = 7.81
14 = 7.98

D1
A = 5.36
K = 4.83

D2
A = 0.124
K = 7.28

The voltages seem okay except for the LM358 if I am not mistaken. Any help/thoughts would be appreciated!

Indeed the LM358 voltages are wrong, in particular the voltages on pins 3 and 6 which should be around 4V and 2.2V.
Please check the resistors connected to those pins (180k,68k and 82k) for correct value and check for shorts near these parts or maybe between pins 3 and 4 of the LM358.

Thanks Andre, I'll check it out tonight.

Nailed it... solder bridge beside pin 3 to gnd. Thanks :)

Andre

you're welcome.
Do you like your smallclone?

Yeah, the EHX style chorus flavour is something I grew up on. It sounds great, noisy at the moment though as I don't have it boxed up...
