Struggling with a problem that i can't believe is the problem....

I've just hit the wall in my tube amp project.

For my 3rd amp, I chose a firefly. The part I'm stuck on? THE AC RECEPTACLE!

I can't figure out how to get the darn fuse in there!!! I know its the right fuse. It is the kind of jack where one of the 3 prongs is extra long (on the inside) and the fuse sits in that. The only way i see to get the fuse in there is an opening between the 2 top prongs (on the outside of the plug). Only problem is it seems springloaded, when i push in the fuse it rockets back out. Also, when i push it in, the already long prong slides out even farther.

HELP!

PS Looks like this from outside      __________
                                                 |                 |
                                                 |   1   o   2   |
                                                 |                |
                                                 |       3        |
                                                 ----------------

1 and 2 are the live prongs, 3 is the ground. o is where the fuse would go in (long "chamber", spring loaded?) This is the part that you would see from the outside of the amp.

Thanks

No way to tell without  either personal experience (which I don't have on that type), a manufacturer's type number or a better picture. Got a pointer to a picture?

I checked a little bit last night, I'll take another look for a picture last night. I can also confirm the amp works with a different power jack, so thi is definitely the problem.

The exact jack i have, not the best picture. The little "door-like thing" running along the top in the back does not open btw.

The thing that looks like it could almost be a 4th prong (top center) is the "chamber" I was talking about.

Is there not a small plug-like plastic cap that goes onto the end of the fuse? Perhaps with a screwdriver slot to insert and turn to latch it in?

nope,  nothing like this. Reading the description, though, sounds like there should be. Oh well, maybe I'll use a different jack.

Thanks,

The reason I ask is that safety regulations effectively require that. There must be no way to touch the metallic end of the fuse.

Yes, if you have access to another jack or can get the cap replaced, I think that's the way to go.

Rocket Roll

When one needs that kind of jack with a built-in fuse, one uses these ones:

Those little doors on the bottom of the jack open up pretty easy - I have that kind of jack on my Hughes&Kettner "Thirty" amp and there's no problem to access the fuse.
