IC Replacement List

is there a IC Replacement List anywhere for op amps and such that show direct drop in replacements

Say you have a dod 250 running off a 741 op amp is there a guide that will show me direct chip replacements for the 741 etc?

Also when I was in school a long time ago there use to be a Thick Electronics Book on ICs that had pinouts  and refrences anyone know what these type of books are and or where to get them? if i remember right they had cross refrences to similar chips as well

Just about any 8-pin single op-amp will have the same pinout as the 741.  Similarly, just about any 8-pin dual op-amp will have the exact same pinout.  Having the same pins in the same places is not the same as behaving the same way under the same conditions, though.

As for the big thick book, I imagine it is simply not cost-effective to produce such a volume these days, particularly when one considers the plethora of part numbers past and present.  Pity.  I always found that book useful too.

I know my electronics engineering teacher has one for transistors, but one for opamps, I never have come across one before.

I think you might be referring to the "Op-Amp Cookbook" by Walter Jung.

It's thick & has a lot of Op-Amp Theory, History, Cross-References, Data Sheets, etc,...

I have the 1st edition & it's neat & legible, however I'm reading reviews on Amazon.com regarding the current 3rd edition & it's not getting very good reviews. Mainly legibility problems.

Try to grab a previous edition if possible (I'm not familiar with the 2nd edition).

but the diffrence was if im not mistaken. Was you could order from the same place as the book or we had a seperate book we could order ICs from. I have no idea where to look for certain ICs places like digi-key scare me into asuming im going to screw up my order. I don't really get any info from them when I type something in a search even simple things like switches look confusing there. Where do you guys get your more uncommon Ics from?  Last time i did it some 10 years ago I had to use 2 books I cant find anymore a massive Ic refrence book which ended in a part numbers I could then look up in a order book now I'm totally lost as to the process

Findchips lists  a few different sources for the ad781, the other IC isn't found but it does find a cd40106be, would that be compatable.
