Tcobretti's "Roger Mayer Spitfire / Mongoose" project is this: http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php/v/TCobrettis-Stuff/album161/RM_SPITFIRE_MONGOOSE_PCB.jpg.html

My build looks like this...

...and sounds like this:

Bonus Fuzz Diode Clipping - http://www.box.net/shared/hqta79mo82
Bonus Fuzz LED Clipping - http://www.box.net/shared/zon3dpmrez
Mongoose Diode Clipping - http://www.box.net/shared/q4u65bpu27
Mongoose LED Clipping - http://www.box.net/shared/9n4jm5np70

"Bonus fuzz" comes from using the "on-off-on" switch for changing between Spitfire and Mongoose. "Off" position of that 3PDT switch gives the Bonus Fuzz sound.

Overall a great project! I'm a big fan of Roger Mayer's Mongoose fuzz and this gives me that plus five other fuzzes in a same box! Yippee! The circuit board is pretty small, though, so I've used ceramic caps all the way (mostly multilayered, but some of them are plain ole' ceramic discs). I wanted to try this fuzz with tantalum caps instead of electrolytics, but I've left that for some other occasion.

Thanks again, tcobretti!

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

My thoughts exactly  ;D I've nicknamed it "Brew'd Slew Stew", but now I see that "Fuzz Soup" would be much better!

I REALLY like the Mongoose with LED clippers.  That may be one of my favorite fuzzes.

Wow, that enclosure turned out great.

I agree - the Mongoose w/ LEDs sounds really good.  It seems like one of the fuzzes that is great for fat power chords.  I have the say that the Mongoose and Bonus fuzzes are about my favorite IC fuzzes I've heard yet.

I'm just glad it worked for you.  I would have felt pretty bad if you put all that work into my unverified layout and it didn't work.

Nonono, thank you for a great project! Once I've figured a few things with your help, that pedal literally built itself. I especially like how you designed variable clipping into the PCB, it saved me the hassle of mounting the diodes on the DPDT switch.

Absolutely. There's just something magical about ProCo Rat based designs and LED clipping. By the way, I have (as always) used 3mm paired red LED's.

Edited 2 add: The clips are recorded with a Strat and a transistor amp, 'cause that's all I have right now, but - boy, you should hear the Mongoose with humbuckers, thick strings and, say, DGCFGD tuning. It sounds like the planet Earth has hit the brakes in a desperate attempt to avoid collision with the Sun.  :icon_biggrin:

i have to add a +1 to the best IC fuzz i've heard in a while.  i usually steer clear of the IC/diode route, but this one sounds great. killer!

This is the best description of a fuzz I have ever heard.

:icon_idea:  I have one spare lm308 and didn't fancy making another RAT, looks like I might have found a use for it  :icon_mrgreen:

nice pedal and clips  ;D
