Good info!  The story about Johnny and Pete reminds me of the George Carlin bit about the stories his priest would tell the kids when he was in school. Something like,  "Johnny was a good Catholic, but his friend Pete wasn't.  And Pete was always trying to get Johnny to eat a hotdog on Friday..."    ;D

Pete and Johnny??

Rip-off of Carl and Jerry (1954-1964).

.

(Yes, same magazine same editor, and possibly the "Pete and Johnny" idea came from the editor.)

(Yes, the set-up has STONG overtones of The Hardy Boys (but with electrons), who had ongoing popularity in this period.)
