I'll see if I can get it drawn tonight, though it might be tomorrow (school, blah).  Also, the sound card got sent out today to get fixed, so when it gets back, I will get up a clip or two (you'll just have to excuse my sucky playing since guitar is my main instrument.  Yes, I'm one of those).

Hey, aren't we all (well, some of us)--you're among friends :).

So I finally got this perf template whooped up.  The board size is not exactly the same as I used, but close.  It's nice that it takes almost no space.  Enjoy.  The perf template came from www.runoffgroove.com.

Nice work!

I'm actually building the Tube Version, If I have some extra time I could check yours to compare...
I'll let you know ;).

I want to do the tube version at some point, but I will be anxious to hear a comparison.  Maybe some sound clips would be nice if you have time...  Anyway, it's been a fun project, hopefully I will get to mess around with it some more at some point.

Sorry this took so long, but I've got a sound sample now.  It is called FET-2B Sample Clip and can be found here http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=903635.

Can anybody upload PCB of this project once more? The link doesn't work.

One question - the pots are log or lin?

Jarno

I just put together a FET2b, and I used log/ audio pots for level, bass and treble, and lin for the mid control.

Excellent preamp by the way! It does have a tad too much gain for use with active basses, so I think I'll put in a input pad (like I did with my homemade bigger brother of this one :-) ).

meffcio

Anybody tried it with an electric guitar, not a bass?

Jarno

I'll plug it in later on, and give it a whirl, not a guitarist myself though. What are you looking for? It's probably _very_ clean.

meffcio

Man, I'm looking for a clean channel for my DIY guitar amp. Since it's based on F-2B which is based on clean Fender, i thought it would suit my taste.

meffcio

Some questions and suggestions:
1. Can you recommend any buffer to use at the output of that preamp in a diy bass amplifier?
2. I think the traces should be widened - that would be better for etching.
3. On the 2nd pcb (the more black one ;p) there's a ground loop, I think.

Did you build it?! Impressions?!
I worked on this vero layout, as I want to give this one a try!!! And then build the tube version too!!!

Done an' workin'=Too many to mention - Tube addict!

nego_veio

does anybody else have a build report on this?
what about the HUM, any news?
I'm thinking about building this to drive an old PA power amplifier i have and use it as a bass amplifier. Anything else i have to do?

Renegadrian

Not yet, had other projects that came before...

Ahh good to finally see a bass specific pre amp out there, Just a few questions.  First, Is the tone stack bass specific? and Second, where the heck can i find a tube version? This is definitely on my to do list as soon as i can get some money. Thank you!
having leftover parts is just proof that you made it better!!!!

nego_veio

I noticed that the tonestack is not "bass specific", it's a standard fender tonestack. But it's the same that Alembic uses for the F-2B, wich is a Bass preamp, so we should be ok.
The values used in the Guero layout gives us a completely different tonestack (i think this wasn't the intention), so i'm sticking with the original Fender one.
But i would love to hear some more feedback before building one. Anyone?
