Small stone linear pot or log pot?

Hi all,
Ive had a look through the threads and cant find anything specific to my problem.

Basically, when the color switch is set to the...ahh...'swooshing' setting, the sound is perfect, sounds awesome.  No problems, what so ever.

But when i switch it to the...ahh..."alien" phaser setting, for the first 90% of the pot rotation all i hear is my normal, clean guitar sound, absolutely no added effect that i can hear, but at the last 10% the...ahem...alien sound phaser kicks in all of a sudden.  The 'alien' effect sounds normal and sounds like its working properly in the last 10%, theres just 90% of the pot range that the effect doesn't become audible at all.

I've used a 1m linear pot and the build instructions from tonepad.  The parts list / build instructions doesn't actually say what pot to use.  So, maybe its working and I've just used a linear pot instead of a log pot?  Or could it be something else entirely?

Any one have any experience with something like this?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sorry i forgot to add.  In the last 10% of the pot rotation for the alien color switch sound, the speed of the effect changes, but because theres such a small area of rotation its pretty hard to find a specific speed.  This also makes me think that the circuit is working and that maybe its the wrong pot type, or i've stuffed up one of the resistors on the board (i checked these and they appeared to be ok).

Thanks for listening :-)

The correct pot is a 1M reverse audio taper.

Thanks for the fast response theehman!

So do you think this would explain the behaviour of my SS?  And do you think that changing it to a 1m log pot would, ahh, no so much 'fix' but be an improvement?

Thanks again,

To really make it work right you need the reverse taper.  You'll probably seem some difference in going to a standard log pot, but all the speed change will be at the wrong end.

Hey thanks again for the info.

I'll give a normal log pot a shot, even though it sounds like its still not going to work 100% properly.  At the moment, i'm getting nothing for 90% of the pot turn, so its gotta be better then that...

Thanks again, theehman.  Much appreciated.

hi again,

Just tried a log pot.  Wired in reverse or wired straight, has almost exactly the same behaviour.  So i'm assuming if you dont have a reverse log pot, the 'alien' color mode is only adjustable in the last 10% of the pot rotation.  Either that, or i've stuffed up something on the circuit  board.
