Hope this isn't considered bad form.

I already posted a couple pictures in the "picture" thread but wanted to add a view to it here for reviews. I'm also posting a very short clip of audio. This is my second build so be honest but gentle  ;D

Pepper Shredder on perf board, pedalenclosures.com housing, all the components from Mouser, the tubes (12u7) from tubes and more, the stomp switch and jacks from antique electronics. The paint is Testors from Hobby Lobby. Boy does that paint dry SLOW! It runs on approx 13VDC and worked on first try. It's a pretty simple build with really satisfying results.

I've posted a sound clip...real short...real simple. The chain is; Ernie Ball MM JPM, Purple PepperShredder, DMP3 mic preamp, Delta1010 audio interface. It's quite dry and no additional effects or EQ going on except for a very very light reverb I forgot to turn off  :icon_confused:. If I wasn't so lazy, I would have dragged out some mic cables and mic'd up my Univalve...maybe later. This is a direct recording but let me tell you...sounds WAY better driving a tube amp. First bite is clean/bypassed, second bit light drive, third bit about 3/4 drive after that it gets a bit sizzly and I didn't care much for it so I cut it out...with some EQ and through the amp it's got a lot of gain and very useable.

Give me your honest comments please  :icon_wink:

I've got a brass washer and a couple old style radio knobs on order. I really don't care for the chrome radio shack knobs.

Your build looks great! I do love my Pepper, I used 6111 subminis for mine. Yours is the first one I've seen with 12U7 apart from the Tube Town prototype. Your soundclips don't do it justice - you're right, you should drag out that big old tube amp and a mic to do some more soundclips. Here's mine (again):

That's downright cool! I dig the vents on the side.

Thanks for the kind words. You're right...I'll drag a mic out here after a bit and post something with a bigger sound. It really is a sweet sounding box. I'm itching for a BSIAB2 for the next build but first...a clean and compact 12-13 VDC mini power supply. The big ol' Astro is simply over-kill for this. Currious, what are you using for a power supply on yours?

Thanks! I need to drag out a mic to record some soundclips of some recent projects myself - and wait until the house is quiet. I power mine from a 12v / 500ma filtered/regulated wallwart from Maplin in the UK.

Here's just one more quick and dirty sound clip. Strum a few chords through the Pepper (bypassed) into my Univalve amp then the pepper at 3/4...excuse the rough playing  :icon_redface: no warm up...just a quick noodle and a little something to hear the pepper.

I have one too and working. I built mine with ECC82 and im sadisfied. But i have one question in mind. I hope you can answer.
What is the value of C4 on this schematic http://www.tube-town.net/diy/lov/lov02-peppershredder.jpg
What does this 0.0047 stands for? How many F-s it is? Im just thinking, maybe i got my C4 wrong.

punkin

i used .0047 uF....I guess I didn't realize the lack of definition in the schematic  :icon_eek: . If I'd noticed I think I would have tried a pF as well just to see what difference it might make. I'm guessing the lower value cap might block a little of the sizzly higher freq signals.

That cap is definitely .0047uF (a.k.a. 4.7nF). It forms a high-pass filter with the 220k resistor with a roll-off frequency of 154Hz. A 4.7pF capacitor would make that frequency 154kHz, which would give you an all-tube mute pedal!
Bringing you yesterday's technology tomorrow.

frequencycentral

Yup, that's what I used too. It seems clear enough.

0.0047uF  =  4.7nF  =  4700pF  =  472

OK. Thanks guys! I'll have to figure out, what choice i did.

Yes but can it do thru zero shredding? :icon_biggrin:
