I learned that a curious 18 month old really slows down the process of getting ANYTHING done.

Might slow down your process, but do you have any idea how much that 18 month-old is doing/learning? :icon_wink:

After taking her with me to graduate mechanical and electrical engineering classes, I can only assume she is learning a lot :icon_biggrin:.  Then again, maybe her play time is what is really doing the trick, either way, she's one smart cookie.

Today I learned that Latvian sprats are difficult, though not impossible, to buy in London.

Very interesting!

Today I learned what a Latvian sprat is (thanks Google, and gez). I also learned that there is an online guide on where to find Latvian sprats & how much you should expect to pay for them:

Just to keep things on-topic, the tins are larger than you think.  Possibly big enough for an enclosure.  It might be an idea to eat the Sprats first, though.

Today I leaned how inexcusably incorrect a teacher of mine was in talking about a bose-condensate in context of electrons, which are fermions... Some people...

And I went around trying to fit this with the exclusion principle for like a week, confusing myself to no end... Simple idea made complicated by some wish-I-leaned-physics-good high school teacher.

Lesson learned: never ever assume anyone else is correct. Only I am.

So I guess I learned two things.

Ripthorn

The way I see it, physics is all lies until you about the time you hit the graduate level.  Up until that point, they give you the Reader's Digest condensed version and tell you to ignore all the other stuff.

I get that feeling...
Are you involved in higher level physics? I've been doing my own reading (on account of the skewed ways in which the high school level is taught... I had a teacher who, for the entire year, said "nucular". Every time... but for the disgraceful salaries we pay them, I shouldn't complain...), and I would enjoy some recommendations. I just finished The New Quantum Universe, and it was quite enjoyable. I live next to a huge Ed McKay's, so I get books for almost free. America man... FRIKN AMERICA.

20 years ago I learned Physics, you know, Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics, Classic Stuff, etc.
19 years ago, 11 months and 29 days ago I learned that I like money much more than Physics.  ::)  ::)
3 years ago I learned that what you have learned many years ago decays exponentially with time, and that parties, girls and UV radiation and sea waves accelerate the process by 10X.
A couple of years in this forum and I still try to figure out what the h*** are those very little fermions doing inside IC and transistors!

And I still don't understand why Young's modulus is function of Pauli's exclusion principle...
Mac, do you have a layout for the Spintronic Fuzz...

Has anyone ever had the canned albacore tuna from cosco? delicious. Best canned meat i've ever eaten. Throw some seasoning salt on that biznatch and spread it on toast. Mmmm.

Isn't that what this thread is supposed to be about, canned fish? Never had sprats though.

No, I think it's about things that you learned in the Applied Stompbox Science Field, but this topic is becoming a vast fishy ocean.

Oh, here is coming the Russian fishing boat Gerry.

That's what I thought, but apparently these weirdos like to talk about solder and stuff.  Mmm Tuna.

Well I guess I learned something too. I've never heard of a sprat before. Interesting article you linked. Hmmm.... Beer and fish.... I hope that people that enjoy this enjoy mouthwash too... :icon_mrgreen:

I was referencing beer when I spoke of a cold beverage for soldering accident treatment.

I learned that you can drive a tube stage too hard.  Funny how things that afterwards make so much sense make none beforehand. :icon_rolleyes:

I've had a few dud pots from smallbear, specifically the 16mm alphas, funnily enough I've never had a problem with the 24mm ones. They were dud because if you applied pressure to the lugs they would change value and cut out randomly, very odd.

opposite here, hate the 24mm
